Post by Julio Batiz on Jan 25, 2019 15:49:13 GMT
Hello everyone,
My name is Julio Batiz, I was born and raised here in El Paso, TX. In this class I hope to cover topics related to artificial intelligence, machine learning and what their differences are. I would also like to get a better understanding of best-practices for project management.
For my hobbies, I mostly like to play racquetball and soccer when I have some free time, if not, I'll usually be playing some PC video games.
The last funny/ sad thing I can remember happening to me is accidentally deleting my own week's worth of work at the office because I thought they were old files.
A surprising fact would be that I volunteer at a local brewery to brew their beers on tab at least once a month. I also volunteer from time to time at local farms.

Hello guys,
First things first, my name is Jose L Loaiza however, most people call me by my nickname: Pepe. El Paso, Texas has been my home town since birth. I love this city, and the way it has grew over the last decade is impressive. Many places are now open for us, plus a lot of activities to be done. Having the city growing and growing challenge me to aspire and open a cafe bar. I am a CIS major who is finishing its bachelors this Fall, hopefully a few years later the goal can be accomplished.
To be honest with you all, this is going to be my very first class related to artificial intelligence, so I am more than glad to learn everything Dr. L Laure Trevino teach us. Looking forward to have a blast with you all this semester.
This may be hard to believe, but my work is also a hobby. In 2015 I started "working" as a waiter. Having to know so many people from all over the city is an amazing and joyful experience. Relating to that many people creates relationships that may help some day. I love doing it, plus at the same time you get paid! Tips are always welcome! Outside the workplace I enjoy doing different exercises through the week. I've always been a guy such sport is a priority. (any sport nothing in particular).
One funny moment recently happened to me and my girlfriend while we were having some beers at Bricktown Tap House Kitchen, I ask the waitress to add a table to our table because a friend texted me that he and his girl were coming. So she did, she put a second table. Me and my girl waited for around an hour because this guy never calls back or even answer a call. Right when we decided to take off, my friend and his girl walking toward the door. He said GPS took him to the Tap Bar & Restaurant. This place is Downtown by the way.
Last year I initiated a small business, selling what I enjoy the most, Dragon Ball collectibles. Some guys that used to go eat, where I work and myself started a small business selling original Dragon Ball merchandise directly imported from Japan. Since then, my collection just gets bigger and bigger. It is an addiction now, won't stop can't stop!

Hello, My name is Aaron Monty, I was born and raised in Altona, New York. Ever since I can remember I’ve always had an interest in technology. As a CIS major I will use the practical knowledge of this class to solve difficult problems in my workplace. I am excited to learn about ES and DSS techniques to become a better leader. This year as a resolution, I was inspired to complete a marathon with a friend of mine. Gradually increasing my weekly running miles has become a challenging and rewarding hobby. I am also an aspiring woodworker, working on small projects like furniture and repair. A funny thing happened to me last week. As I was watching TV on the couch (my other hobby), I hear a loud bang on the window next to me. A squirrel had mistaken the window for open and smacked his head. With his face and both paws on the window glass we exchanged looks of complete shock. After what felt like a full minute he went on his way. A surprising fact about me is that as a non-native El Pasoan I still like to be part of the community. I volunteer my time with the Knights of Columbus, Operation Hope, and Wounded Warriors to make the city a better place, and I also hope to inspire others to do the same.

Post by Alberto Gomez on Jan 26, 2019 22:57:44 GMT
Hello everyone,
My name is Alberto Gomez and I was born and raised here in El Paso, Texas. I have a strong passion for all things tech and I am always looking for new skills to learn. Aside from school, I work three part-time jobs and have a long list of personal projects or skills I would like to get to. With that being said, some of the skills I am looking forward to developing further this semester are my project management skills, time management skills, and emerging technologies such as AI and machine learning along with some real-world use-cases for them. Although my schedule is relatively busy, I still enjoy spending my free time in a variety of different ways. As mentioned before, one of my hobbies is working on personal projects I create for myself; previous ones ranging from an iOS/Android App, web development, home automation / automation in general, and other projects mostly revolving around technology. In addition to working on personal projects, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, watching movies and TV shows, visiting new local places and restaurants, listening to music, and playing video games (PC, Nintendo Switch).
When I say that technology has always been of interest for me, I truly mean it. When I was about 5 years old, I finally had permission to disassemble some of my electronics to see what was inside them, try to understand how they worked, and put them back together. That required me to connect wires to random places to see what would happen after I made the connection. I became accustomed to that method of testing and learning, so after a few months I would continue to do the same but not just with toys. My family and I were shopping for clothes for my sister and inside the entrance to the dressing room there was an open door that read “Electrical Room”, so naturally, I was intrigued. I walked in and saw so many different types of cables of all sorts of sizes. Staying true to my testing methodology I connected the thickest cable I could find to the nearest port I could find (now knowing it was a high voltage outlet). Long story short, I burnt off the outer skin of all of my fingers on the hand where I was holding the wire in, and the store where we were shopping at lost power for the next few days.
People have many talents, so it is difficult to catch someone by surprise when telling them something about oneself. But one thing that I have found that surprises others about me is that I truly enjoy to work. Whether I am getting paid for it or not, I always find it rewarding to be productive. It is often a benefit for myself as well as others so I tend to keep busy; always trying to improve, learn, or help others in any way I can.

Post by Eduardo Camacho on Jan 29, 2019 0:56:19 GMT
My name is Eduardo Camacho and I was born here in El Paso. I was raised in Houston but also lived in Waco, TX for a couple of years. Three skills I would like to improve on are my communication, programming, and interpersonal skills. My hobbies include working out, playing video games, and watching football, basketball, and baseball. A funny moment I can remember was when my girlfriend accidentally dropped her purse in the Plaza de los Lagartos fountain at the San Jacinto Plaza. I quickly jumped into retrieve her purse in front of a large crowd. You don’t realize how much water is in the statue until you get in. My favorite shoes were soaked for a few days as a result. Something surprising about me is that I used to be Resident Assistant at Miner Heights. People that know me would find this surprising because I generally keep to myself and do not like engaging with large groups of people. Being A Resident Assistant took me out of my comfort zone and gave me the opportunity to meet and interact with people from all around the world.

My name Jessica Luna and I was born and raised here in El Paso, Texas. I have two sister and one brother. I come from a large family with more then twenty five cousins and that is only one side of the family. I have been married for a long time now and have two wonderful children. Beside my family I work very hard and have been working for a long time it has been rough working, family and going to school. It has taken me a long time to finish school. Hopefully I should graduate this year with a bachelor in CIS. My hobbies were scrap booking but these days I just try to catch-up with life.
I was recently in an accident at school last Wednesday, I fell down the stairs. So this week so far has been rough I missed a lot of work. Need to catch-up. I generally always in a rush and I don't pay attention to the things around me or when I'm in class I try to focus but I keep thinking of all the other stuff I need to do.
So good luck class this semester and I look forward to doing the robotic project.

Hello, My name is Edison Rodriguez. I was born in El Paso Texas and have lived here my whole life. I currently work at a local media production company. My job consists of dealing with local businesses’ advertising needs. I also work a lot of night life and concert events. My job has given me the ability to travel out of town at times which I like to treat like my vacation from the city. I have worked on productions from people like your local dentist to Rapping Headliner Travis Scott. I started doing this type of work for fun with a friend in high school and haven’t stopped doing it since.
When I am not working on anything with my team, most of my time is taken by my studies. I am a marketing major with a minor in computer information systems expected to graduate this fall. I hope to take away from this class a more comprehensive understanding of expert systems and an idea of the kind of economic disruption this new technology will cause.

Hello, my name is Genesis Saucedo I was born and raised here in El Paso. More specifically in the far east side close to Hueco Tanks, in a neighborhood that has grown a lot throughout the years and that is known to some people who live there as “Polvos”. I don’t really have any hobbies, occasionally I play volleyball with my family and for the most part just watch Korean dramas, anime and play video games.
I went to Mountain View High School and there I was able to be part of an IT program which allowed me to obtain my certifications in CompTIA A+ and Network+. Lucky for me one year after graduating the school district started an internship program for college students to be able to work for the schools as an IT Field Specialist or on the Helpdesk. My IT teacher recommended me, and I have been working as an IT Field Specialist for the school district since. I feel as though I have learned a lot, but I wish to expand my knowledge and skills in Networking and Security. I also recently started working another part time job on the weekends at Office Depot, which has made me want to improve on my selling skills. I have never had a sales job and I want to improve on being able to engage better with the customers and sell more.
I have been sitting here for an hour thinking of something funny that happened to me recently, but I could not think of anything that was worth writing about. Something that everyone, for the most part, would find surprising to know about me is that I fix computers and can disassemble/assemble laptops and desktops and enjoy doing it. If I had the money, I would think seriously about opening a computer repair shop but for now I just do it at work or at home when something of mine or my family needs fixing.
Anyways that was pretty much all the cool things about me so good luck with the semester and to those graduating this semester congratulations!

Hello, my name is Mario Allen Luna, I am a Senior here at the University of Texas at El Paso. My Focus of Study is Computer Information Systems. I have my entire life built around The El Paso County. I say the County as I have lived from the Far West Side to the Far East side but moving all the time, I never had a group of solid friendships, but I made a lot of networking opportunities growing up and it broadened my horizon of why today I am focusing on my Degree Path. I have very Few Hobbies, some would be playing Video Games on either PC or through a Console (Xbox). Walking with my Dog at the Dog Parks, He is a large Saint Bernard that loves attention, I am a movie junkie or Netflix binge watcher. Finally, I am a football Fan and the team I have loved since I was young is the Atlanta Falcons. I currently work at a part time position at the JCPenney Portrait Studio, I am a certified Photographer and have been working at the company on and off because of school for approximately 2 years now. Even though I don’t like talking with Stanger’s in public because I know they just want to go on with their day. I can be a real extrovert individual who loves to do presentations and speak up at events. Some Side projects I love doing in my spare time, is disassembling and rebuilding PC’s that I have at home. This was always a fascinating factor when I first disassembled my very own PC when I was 15 years old. Turning that old dusty PC into a somewhat moderate Gaming PC was what sparked my enthusiasm for technology. I tend Learn more about program software and applications that range from Android to Windows and Linux on my off time when I’m not dealing with my education. A funny Thing that some people may laugh at or be intrigued by is that last semester I was in the home coming pageant as a contestant and had to dance along with 3 other guys to the song “Pony” …. This was recorded and televised locally (its literally on SGA Facebook if you’re interested in watching.) and it’s a day I wondered to myself how did I get into this situation.

Hello, my name is Ricky Robles and I was born and raised in El Paso, Tx. I guess three skills I'd like to develop or work on would be public speaking, exploring the world of robotics and some coding (always had some trouble understanding the language).
So as far as my hobbies go, I love spending time with my two boys and fiancé. Really enjoy staying active by either going mountain climbing, going for a good run or just going to the gym. I also enjoy cooking. Every now and then I'll try something completely new, sometimes I succeed and sometimes I fail miserably but, I’m always open to new recipes.
Back on New Year’s Eve me and my buddy were lighting fireworks in the middle of the street (it's a new neighborhood so it's really empty) so as I was lighting up an artillery shell, a car was coming down the street. As I was trying to turn off the wick the launching pad fell, luckily it didn’t hit the car but it did hit a rock wall of a nearby house (it was vacant and caused no damage). It was a little nerve-wracking but, kind of funny.
People would be surprised to know that I’m a.... LEFTIE!!!

Hello, my name is Manuel Casillas and I was born and raised here in El Paso, TX. I’m majoring in CIS because I have always had an interest in technology as a kid. The three skills I would like to improve are coding, communicating with others, and robotics. So this project is going to help me develop that skill a bit. As for hobbies I like to workout five times a week, go to the movies, eat a lot, cooking, looking at what new devices are announced. Recently I was working out with a friend and as we were about to start things off he got a cramp on his leg, I laughed but to my surprise, my leg cramped up too and I thought that was so funny. The one thing that catches people by surprise is that I like Dragon Ball.

Hello Everyone,
My name is Vanessa Sepeda and I've lived in El Paso, Texas for most of my life. I have always been interested in all sorts of technology. Figuring them out has always been somewhat natural to me but I know I have a lot to learn and I am excited to for this course. I would like to learn more about security, artificial intelligence and project management. I am a CIS Major and I have about 7 courses left to graduate.
My hobbies include, running, bird watching, sketching and hanging out with my dog. The last funny thing that happened to me was walking into the males bathroom at the movie theater because I was texting my mom during the short break. A lady watched me walk in and didn't say anything but I walked right back out and started laughing and told her "that's what I get for being on my phone". Also, she could have told me! I wouldn't have this story to tell if she would have warned me though.
Something surprising about me is, people are always surprised when I tell them that I like to bird watch. I guess they picture a "birder" to look a certain way and according to them, I don't fit that standard. I just really love to learn about everything and anything, but the challenge of knowing exactly what type of bird that is on a tree or wherever, is why I enjoy bird watching.
